DROP FOOT IN CHILDREN

Foot drop in children is a condition characterized by difficulty or inability to actively lift the forefoot upward (dorsiflexion). As a result, during walking the child may drag the toes on the ground, excessively lift the knee (steppage gait), or compensate by positioning the foot incorrectly. If left untreated, the disorder may lead to persistent gait abnormalities and postural problems.

Less common causes include peroneal nerve injury, cerebral palsy (CP), or perinatal injuries. In children, early implementation of orthotic support like the OSS-OS-07 is particularly important to prevent secondary deformities and support proper gait pattern development.

The OSS-OS-07 paediatric foot drop brace is a lightweight support designed for children with foot drop resulting from neurological disorders or post-traumatic complications. The brace effectively supports forefoot elevation, preventing toe dragging.

Made of soft, slightly elastic UniPren™ material, it ensures all-day wearing comfort. Its compact construction makes it nearly invisible inside footwear, enabling both indoor and outdoor wear.

The design allows the brace to be applied with one hand, which is particularly important for users with unilateral functional limitations.

UniPren™ is a universal 3-layer material consisting of an external elastic polyamide cover knit with a self-adhesive function, an internal neoprene foam core and an elastic jersey cover knit. This material is characterized by softness and very high flexibility. A very important advantage of this material is the fact that it is not a knitted product, it does not have thick fibers, so that the weaves of the material do not imprint on the patient's skin and do not cause abrasionsin places of high compression. Products made of UniPren™ are the strongest and most effective stabilizing orthoses available on the market. Self-adhesive function, the raw material makes it much easier to use.

The special construction provides constant elastic compression that lifts the front of the foot, reducing the risk of tripping.

The OSS-OS-07 brace features a reinforced big toe strap that not only performs a lifting function but also corrects forefoot alignment. It positions the first metatarsal bone correctly and helps prevent the progression of hallux valgus deformity. The open heel design enhances sensory feedback, which is key in pediatric therapy. Unlike traditional rigid plastic devices, this brace acts dynamically, supporting natural movement.
