WHAT IS PERTHES DISEASE?

Perthes disease is the avascular necrosis, in which parts of bone tissue and cartilage of femur die due to the disruption of blood flow. Avascular necrosis is a childhood and youth condition, what is the result of the lack of connections between vessels of the bone during the growth phase. Perthes disease usually appears between 4 and 10 years old and in 80% it involves boys. The disease usually affects only one hip joint. The most characteristic features of this disease is claudication and a small pain of groin, knee and thigh. A common symptom of Perthes disease is also the limitation of abduction and internal rotation.

Each kind of intensive physical activity and exercises that aim is to enlarge the range of motion in hip joint are strongly forbidden while the treatment process of Perthes disease. In some cases, apart from relaxing, surgery and immobilization of lower limb is necessary. In each phase of the Perthes disease, our derotation hip joint brace AM-ADS-R will be a perfect solution. It will disburden the joint and immobilize the hip in a given therapeutic internal rotation.

HOW DOES CHILDREN BRACE AM-ADS-R WORK?

The aim of our derotation hip brace AM-ADS-R is to immobilize the lower limb and keep the femur in a correct position. Such a solution helps to stop the contractures and offload the articular surface of hip, knee and ankle joint.

Hip brace AM ADS-R consists of three elements: a frame with the regulation of rotation, a soft foam and stabilizing straps. The frame is very durable, that is why, it ensures a perfect stabilization and immobilization f a lower limb. On a special triangular base, there is a scale which helps to set a correct rotation angle. Both the internal and external rotation include the range from 0 to 45°. Additionally, a special foot support keeps it in a neutral position. That is why, apart from hip stabilization the brace can be used in case of the contractures of gastrocnemius muscles including the contractures of plantaris muscles. The brace keeps also the knee joint in a straight position, what is important when a patient suffers from contractures of ischiotibial muscles.

The regulation of rotation of a hip joint can be done in a really easy and quick way. You just need to turn the knob placed on a triangular base and set a needed angle. A scale ensures a fluent and physiological rotation of a hip joint (both external as internal).

Aluminum frame of the brace was covered with a soft foam that has an embossed construction. Thanks to that solution, it provides air circulation inside the brace and lets skin breathe. Moreover, it prevents from lesions and bedsores as well. Stabilizing straps were made of soft and skin-friendly velour. They stabilize the limb in a brace and protects the leg against undesirable foot drop and hip rotation. To ensure an appropriate level of hygiene, the foam and straps may be easily removed from the brace and the frame can be refreshed.

C463 fabric is light, soft and easy to shape. The cover has a special test results Oeco-Tex Standard 100, which confirm that it is skin-friendly.
