REFLUX

Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a very common condition that interrupts feeding and sleep routine. Reflux is referred to when a child spits out liquid or food. This happens when gastric contents back up from the child’s stomach into the oesophagus. The backflowing food content causes discomfort and a burning sensation. This, in turn, leads to an irritable baby and increased crying or fussing. Very often the problem affects premature babies due to weakened oesophageal muscles.

If reflux is not a symptom of a serious illness, it should pass spontaneously by the age of 18 months. Until then, doctors recommend conservative management, i.e. correct feeding and positioning. Studies indicate that placing infants on their left side is effective in reducing reflux. Specialized positioning aids are used for this purpose, i.e. the KLP-01 wedge.

The KLP-01 infant anti roll pillow keeps the baby in a safe, lateral position without the risk of involuntary rolling over onto the stomach and developing SIDS syndrome. In young babies, the muscles controlling the gastric inlet do not yet perform their function perfectly, especially in premature babies. As a consequence of this slight insufficiency, food can back up into the oesophagus and escape from the mouth, which also irritates the airways and provokes swallowing.

The KLP-01 paediatric positioning wedge has been designed according to the latest guidelines. It allows the infant to be received in a safe, left lateral position, which, according to researchers, is beneficial for reducing reflux symptoms. By lying on the left side, the baby’s stomach has an ergonomic position in relation to the oesophagus and food does not back up.

Innovative design based on two differently sized wedges and a wraparound strap. Soft wedges protect the child from uncontrolled movement while lying on the side. The smaller wedge can be freely attached anywhere, so the product “grows” with the child.
