CEREBRAL PALSY (CP)
Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect a child’s ability to move, maintain balance and posture. This palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood. Many children with cerebral palsy have various musculoskeletal deformities associated with biomechanical imbalances during growth. Among these, the most common deformity is progressive displacement of the hip joint, which results in increased disability for the child and immense pain.
Doctors and physiotherapists recommend maintaining a prophylactic lower limb visitation in children affected by cerebral palsy in order to preserve tissue flexibility and the greatest possible range of hip mobility.
To this end, we recommend the use of the innovative FREMI paediatric hip abduction orthosis, which takes care of the correct position of the lower limbs affected by the paralysis.
The product’s frame is made of lightweight but strong aluminum, which maintains a safe hip abduction, even when strong muscle spasms are present.
The brace’s frame is surrounded by a comfortable pressure relieving foam that completely eliminates the risk of corns and increases the comfort of the product.
The foam is covered with the very friendly, breathable cotton fabric CottonMix™, which allows the kid’s skin breath and prevents allergies or lesions.
In addition, the product is equipped with hip wraparound straps, made of the skin-friendly material AirDistance™, which provide effective stabilization and wick away moisture from the skin. The same material forms the cover of the orthosis adjuster, ensuring that the child only comes into contact with skin-friendly, certified materials.
AirDistance™ is an airy 3-layer fabric that consists of perforated comfort foam and 2 durable non-elastic polyamide layers allowing air and water to migrate. This construction makes the skin dry all the time. In addition, the fresh air comes to the skin from outside. AirDistance™ is easy to attach from 2 sides, which allows to fit our braces precisely.
Product’s description:
The FREMI paediatric hip frame holds the child’s lower limbs in the required abduction position.
The product has an innovative design in which the forces of the orthosis act from the inside of the limbs, i.e. from the adductor and flexor muscles, which are the most vulnerable to spasms resulting from damage to the central nervous system. This solution provides excellent support and safety and reduces the risk of dislocation of the femoral head, which occurs in similar products but which provide stabilization from the outside of the limbs.
The FREMI children’s hip abduction orthosis offers adjustable hip joint abduction within a physiological range of approximately 0 to 45 degrees. The wide adjustment of the limb positioning in the abduction allows a smooth therapeutic abduction of the limbs initially in a lower recommended range (e.g. 15 degrees), then in a higher range (e.g. 30 degrees).
Such a solution ensures an effective treatment of lower limb spasticity, stretching of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) and is an effective support in the active therapeutic managment.
